Trigger Mike

In class we watched Trigger Warning which is an Netflix series about the rapper Killer Mike explaining how we as black people should start investing into ourselves and keeping the money within our community. In the show he spent three day living totally black meaning he would only eat food grown on a black owned farm, and sold in a black on restaurant. He also didn’t use his regular phone for the three day because it was made by Apple. He also slept outside on a park bench because he couldn’t find any black owned hotel in the area. What I took away from the video is that over time there has been a disconnect when it comes to the black consumers and the black business owners. The only way to recreate the monetary success of the past within the black community is for the next generation of black Entrepreneur’s to market to the black community and to actually do it and not just talk about it.

A guest that stood out to me was the WTVD reporter Jasmine Crowe. She was noticeably attractive and very confident. She explained to us the importance of being willing to work. Take an assignment and do it to the best of you ability. She explained the toss and turns off the industry and the steadfastness you must show to make it big in media. I noticed her crowd control that was also very impressive to me. She made sure to captivate everyone’s attention.

Vida William

This Ted Talk is about a Scientist named Vida Williams who has been focusing on Citizen data in the United States. During her Ted Talk Vida made three points that stood out to me, the first being that there are decisions being made using your data with out you even knowing. Meaning that sometimes our data makes decisions for us that go against our own real life morals, values, and ethics without us even knowing. The second point is that you are always on the grid. Meaning that everything you do is being noted and made into data. The third point is that there are no laws protecting your information from being used for others gain. With all this said be more care with you information and vote for laws that are going to let you have a say in what your data is being used for.

Black Panther

There were many different parts to the black panther crew. One of the members talked about how they were not known as a whole together of black panther. I think what she was saying that they were not all supportive of each other by that.

They also had developed a program to feed kids breakfast and I was never aware of that. they did a lot of things behind the scenes that never got shown. I think that only the bad from them was posted. they were told that breakfast was good for kids to function well in school and the decided to help those kids and it was an amazing idea. I honestly cant wait for us to finish the rest of the video to learn more about them.

Tyler Perry

In 2018, Tyler Perry was given the opportunity to speak at the National Association of Black Journalists and what he said really spoke to many people in different ways. Perry proceeded to give a speech about his work ethic and how he got to be where he is today. He spoke on how from a young age he watched his father be a hard-working man. The one thing that puzzled him even at a young age was the fact that he never got credit for the work he did and that bothered him as a young boy seeing his father building all these amazing things. After that he spoke on how he made Tyler Perry Studios into what it is today and it was so inspiring to see him speak on that and how he is so grateful for all he has worked and prayed for. His overall message was to work, work for what you want, work for who you want to be, and work for who you want to be remembered as. My favorite quote from his speech was when he said “Once you get to where you’re going don’t run from where you came from”; I feel like by saying this he means that you should always remember where you started and I like that, growing up my older relatives told me to never forget where I came from so it hit home.

Guest B: Campus Echo

Campus echo is our campus news paper here at North Carolina Central. After visiting the office and/or lab where the paper is produced I was blown away. To see the amount of work that goes into the stories and production was amazing. More importantly I appreciated the operations more than anything. The fact that it was ran like an actually business, and that students could get a hands on experience and develop professionally was a good thing to see.

Hair Love

Hair Love: The makings behind the Oscar-nominated short film

March 29th 2020

While watching the video ” Hair Love” I really felt the power of bonding. A key take away from this short video was value what’s close to you. While watching the video the mom got cancer and the dad is always working. The dad soon realized by not caring about his daughter and how much hair meant to her, he realized he was doing his daughter a disservice by not being there for her. From the fathers view you can tell her was going through a lot of stress. His wife is in the hospital and he’s trying to juggle work and being a better father. As well the dad has to do the every month hair day with his daughter that his wife was the best at. I often felt that both the father and daughter were challenge of adjusting without the mom. The mom was a key part in their lives and you can see how hard it was on the characters throughout the short film without her. The story overall was well written and showed me that we should really value what we have, because every moment is precious.

Sizzle Reel

The new way to show the world?

Image result for what is a Sizzle Reel.

Sunday April 5th 2020

A Sizzle Reel is a 3-5 minute video that focus on getting an idea out. I personally like the idea, because it really let creators show case their new designs. To make the show entreating as well as get a feel for the new idea, multiple features should be present. First I would make the video thorough but enjoyable. This way the audience is getting and in-depth look at the product. The next feature i’d have in the video is a real world demonstration. Lastly i’d have a raffle at the end of the video in the likes. The first 100 people to like and repost the video and @ me would get a free product.

Justin Burnett is a Mass Communications student at North Carolina Central University. He is a D.J and is also featured on a Raleigh podcast. He came back to Central to work on getting his degree. Justin constantly talked about believing in himself and always pushing through. I felt as if I need this because there were times I wanted to dropout this year, but I felt the need to push through. After hearing Justin’s story, I want to be able to finish college as well, and also be able to be successful and share my journey as well.
